An alternative broadband service is now available in Stanstead. It is being provided by a company called County Broadband - have a look at their website.
This is from their email to the Parish Clerk - but please note, we are just passing this information on to you, not recommending it:
"Fantastic news! We are now building our superfast broadband network into Stanstead.
As you may remember we deliver our broadband via aerials (rather like the way television works) and we will have a service capable of delivering 32Mbps in upload and download. This means we are not reliant on BTs upgrades, nor do we use their phone lines at all to deliver our broadband, and we have a phone service which complements our broadband service which means you can get rid of your BT phone line completely (and save on their £17.99 per month fixed line rental!)
County broadband offer:
· Speeds of 32Mbps in upload and download
· You get to choose the speeds you want rather than being told what you can have
· We also offer a phone system which does NOT need BT so you can save £17.99 per month
How to get connected
In a few easy steps you could have superfast broadband installed
1. click on the link here and type your postcode into the postcode finder
2. identify your property on the map (we need this to map whether we can get a connection to your property) and complete your personal details
3. choose the tariff which suits you best
4. and finally complete your bank details
We will then call you to book a convenient time to complete the installation.
You can exit your current contract if you act swiftly
The timing is perfect. Under new laws if your current provider changes your contract part way through it - as BT have done with their increase to £17.99 on the line rental - then you are free to move from your existing contract within 30 days without penalty. See recent press article here."
